Orijen Dog Food new Formula - Making my dog sick

I stood by Orijen until they suddenly changed their recipe and both my dogs got sick. I returned the food to the pet store, got a refund and information that many people had experienced the same problem. I then notified Orijen and never received any explanation or any responsibility so needless to say my dogs now eat homemade and Orijen lost a $200/month customer.



Hi Shelly - I am so sorry it took so long to get back to you and to hear about your experience with Orijen. I hope your dogs didn't get to sick! I do not personally use Orijens products but have done some research and found that you are not the only one that has experienced issues, here is why Orijen's new formula could be making your dog's sick. I know this might sound strange but they actually improved the food, with this said, any change to your dogs diet can bring on stomach upset, diarrhea and even vomiting.

Here is what they did. First they increased the amount of meat from 70 to 80 percent also more of that meat is now fresh, this new formula is about 40 percent fresh raw meat. Another change to this formula is you'll find fresh liver and chicken liver, from all appearances it would seem this food is even more expensive to produce.

I've heard if your already feeding this product you should not have any issues with the new formula, but they were wrong and in your case and it made your dogs sick. I wish they would have been proactive about introducing a new formula and not warning their consumers. Maybe they should have transitioned into the new style of food or at least given their customers recommendations for transition.

I have been purchasing Orijen for years for my Poms up until the week of Thanksgiving! We bought a new bag of food, and suddenly they all had diarrhea, and vomiting for several days on end. I had to make them chicken, and rice, as well as switch dog food. Amazingly they almost instantly got better with the dog food switch. Come to think of it, they have been slowly been throwing up over the last few Months, and random diarrhea. They rarely get treats, and never get table scraps. They only get a home cooked meal if not feeling well, or once in a blue moon. After all of this I may consider making them their food! I heard that Orijen did get bought out by Purina. I will not support that company, and why was there a need to change the formula if it wasn’t broken. Oh well, they lost my business, the new food has probiotics and has made their bellies feel better.

I just switched to this brand today, I was feeding him perforatrin dry dog food but it is high in carbs. The store owner global pet foods said it will make my dog sick and stay with my brand. We shall see

I tried Orijen because my GSD is a picky eater, and the dog food's reputation and lack of recalls is what made me try it.
Well, my dog was on the food for about three weeks. During that time, he became extremely thirsty, vomited a few times a week, had really dark urine and became gassy -- he'd never had a gas issue before. As soon as I figured out it was the food, I stopped feeding it to him. It's only been a few days, but he's feeling much better.
I'm looking at raw diets and homemade food options. After seeing all the recalls and how the 'best'food has been horrible for my dog, I will no longer feed him commercial pet food.

My dog was on victor and I decided to switch to Orijen. Well I made the transfer a slow process but my dog got sick every time she ate it. So needless to say I'm switching back to victor. I've been ready that a lot of other people have had the same problem!

My German Shepherds have been vomiting and also have very loose stools I was worried the bag I just purchased of orijen regional red might be the reason. My husband purchased a new bag and they seemed to be fine 2 weeks later he decided to finish up the other bag since he didnt think the food was the cause. We just purchased a new puppy and thought the stress may have caused the problem. The vomiting and diarrhea have returned and my male has become lathargic and will not eat. We are off to the vet for an emergency visit,this has all happened in the last 24 hrs.Has anyone had a simila experience with orijen............the lot number on both bags were the same.
